In his regular feature for El Mundo Deportivo, national team coach Hristo Stoichkov said that he believed in Bulgaria’s victory over the national team of Albania.
Bulgaria will face Albania on March 28 in a qualification match for Euro 2008.
The coming matches will be determining for Bulgaria’s participation in the European championship, Stoichkov said.
Victory over Albania was necessary to guarantee Bulgaria’s leading position in qualification group G, Focus Sport agency reported. At the moment the Netherlands is in the lead but the team has played one more match than its competitors.
On Saturday March 24, the Netherlands ended its match against Romania in a draw. The match showed that all teams were almost equally powerful, Stoichkov said.
“I believe we will defeat Albania and after that we will do the same in the two matches against Belarus in June,” Stoichkov said. If Bulgaria managed to register no losses, it could be able to take part in an European championship once again, Stoichkov said.
