The status of the US soldiers positioned in Bulgarian military bases is still negotiated, Foreign Affairs Minister Ivailo Kalfin said.
Once the negotiations end it would become clear where the US troops will reside and what type of Bulgarian military equipment would be used in their operations, Focus news agency reported.
At the same time Defence Minister Vesselin Bliznakov said talks over the positioning of US troops in only two Bulgarian bases have been carried out. All other options are only a hypothesis, Bliznakov said.
Earlier this week various media published information the US requested the positioning of foreign troops in three, rather than two Bulgarian bases.
Washington will warn Bulgaria in advance if bases on Bulgarian territory will be used for attacks against Iran, Focus news agency reported. The agreement Bulgaria will sign with the US is binding enough to permit Bulgarian control over foreign military operations on the country's territory Bliznakov said.
Bliznakov said Bulgarian and US work groups are drafting the technical parameters of the agreement, which would likely be signed in a month.
