STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED IN BULGARIA’S ASSENOVGRAD
17:43 Wed 06 Jun 2007

A state of emergency was declared in the town of Assenovgrad because of the intense rainfall and resulting floods.

The regional division of the State Agency for Civil Defence (SACD) announced the emergency on June 6.

Walls collapsed, roads are closed and landslides occurred as a result of the downpours.

Houses were flooded in the villages of Kozanovo, Mouldava, Lenovo and Cherven.

SACD representatives said that Potoka River is under monitoring, since rainwater is flowing in the river at the rate of 30 cubic m per second.

The bridge over Belishka River in the Lyki region is covered by over 0.8m of water. The bridge servers as transport connection to various villages and is currently inaccessible.
