Young scientists should orientate towards projects and not institutional funding because it was more effective, Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev, who awarded on December 4 young researchers, said as reported by Dnevnik daily.
Stanishev promised scientists that the strategy for development of scientific research, which had been scheduled for 2007, would be ready by March 2008.
The Prime Minister promised scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences BAN that they would receive a considerable sum from the budget surplus that was going to satisfy their immediate needs. The money would be used for urgent capital expenditures and for the purchase of new equipment for research centres, Dnevnik daily said.
Stanishev said Government was ready to participate with co-financing in the construction of several centres for applied research, directly connected to innovation. However, he did not specify the areas of investments.
According to sources at the Education Ministry, Cabinet was planning to stop financing per capita in science and to mark several priority areas, Dnevnik daily said.
