Actor Kamen Donev presented his latest production Za Narodnoto Tvorchestvo (For National Artistry), a theatre-show that he described as part folk song, part improvisation, part cabaret, at Music Centre Boris Christoff in Sofia on the morning of October 18.
The show will premiere in Sofia on October 19 at the Satirical Theatre Aleko Konstantinov.
It is inspired by his training in folk song and dance as a child in his hometown Rousse, and then in Sofia. His acting career started later in life, when he was back in Rousse at a technical high school, and a teacher challenged him to a game of improvisation.
Donev said that Za Narodnoto Tvorchestvo takes the form of a lesson in which a teacher comes on stage and instructs on how folk music and dance can apply to everyday life, to the modern person in conversations, at work, while shopping, while feeding the dog. Audience interaction plays a key role in the path the theatre-show will take.
Performers include the Eva Quartet and kaval player Theodosii Spassov.
Tickets for the intermissionless production (runtime 1.5 to two hours) are sold out until November; there is talk of an English version as well.
