Spiritual healing in Bulgaria

Jutta and Jens R. moved to Bulgaria from Germany two years ago.

While most foreigners first find themselves in Bulgaria for work-related reasons or because they have a Bulgarian partner; Jutta and Jens had very different reasons for making the move.

This is their story; it is one of tragedy, courage, dedication, love and hope. It is also about the potential of spiritual healing.

It all started back in October 1987. Jutta and Jens were holidaying in Tuscany, Italy. On this fateful day they had decided to go on an outdoor horse trek with a local stable. Neither were experienced riders, although Jens had recently started lessons in Germany. The stable assured them that they would be perfectly safe as the horses were very calm. They were not even issued with hard hats. Within minutes of setting off, they reached a rather tricky steep part. Jutta made a comment to her husband who she believed was behind her but received no reply. As she carefully glanced back she was horrified to find no sign of him. She alerted the riding school instructor and they returned to the stables finding Jens unconscious on the floor near the stables. To this very day no one knows exactly what happened, but Jens was left with a brain haemorrhage in a coma, which was to last for exactly six weeks.

Two weeks after the accident, Jens was airlifted to Germany where he underwent surgery to remove the haemorrhage. Jutta was horrified to find the neurologists in Germany very dismissive of her husband’s chances, some were even callous enough to suggest she put him into a home and get on with her life.

But that was not what she wanted. She wanted her husband back and she was going to fight as best she could. The very day that Jens came out of the coma he was immediately put into a rehabilitation centre for the necessary post-coma stimulation. Jens could no longer talk, sit or walk. It was like starting over with a large-sized baby.

Jutta’s disillusion with the medical profession got worse as they experimented with medication and suggested the best place for Jens would be in a nursing home. As soon as it was medically safe to take Jens home, she did. She had volunteers take two eight hour shifts while she went to work and at night she looked after her husband alone.

About two and a half years after the accident, a Bulgarian family friend, who has been living in Germany for 30 years, said to Jutta “Just as soon as Jens can give me a sign that he understands me and agrees to it, I will send for an ‘extra sense’ from Bulgaria.” “Are you crazy – we don’t need this kind of hocus pocus?”

“This is a matter between me and Jens” came the friend’s reply.

And so Simeon, the spiritual healer from Bulgaria arrived in Germany. For 10 days he worked with the energies around Jens, he didn’t even physically touch him. Simeon told a sceptical Jutta that it would take up to three weeks to see any effect.

Ten days after the end of the treatment, Jens started talking.

Three months later they came to Sofia for their first visit, still under the old regime. They rented a house in Simeonovo and continued to work with Simeon. On a visit to the Rila Monastery, the second ‘miracle’ happened: Jens walked all the way to the tomb of Ivan Rilski despite hysterical protests from Jutta , that he would fall. Simeon assured her that Jens was safe and so the trust and bond to Simeon was forged. There followed several more cross country visits, and various forms of alternative healing, including massage and herbs were applied, and somehow Jutta noticed that Jens always felt better in Bulgaria. He suffered less from headaches and had more energy. And so two years ago they retired to Bulgaria, the land that had helped bring her husband back to life when western doctors had already written him off.

The power to heal is a gift, it is not acquired through training or practice. Ordinary, often middle aged people, one day discover they have healing powers.

As conventional medicine seems to let people down when it comes to illnesses such as allergies, cancer and AIDS, so people find themselves turning to alternative medicine including spiritual healing. Bulgaria has a large number of very gifted healers, specialising in different areas. It is said however, that healers alone cannot complete the healing process: all healing ultimately comes from within.

Simeon no longer works with Jens, they are friends, but Jutta and Jens continue with alternative medical practices. Simeon currently works with cancer patients. It is over 14 years since the accident and Jens is still making progress. In fact Jutta says she got more than she had ever hoped for; her husband who somewhere along the way lost his rough edges! It was a big pleasure for me to read the article about Simeon, the spiritual healer. I can only add that I myself improved my quality of life after conventional cancer treatment due to another spiritual/energy healer from Bulgaria. Might you be interested in my story please mail me . I would also like to get in contact with Simeon. Could you please provide me with contact details. Kind regards, Irina de Vries- Vlahova Netherlands
