Various Spanish media reported on the decision of Hristo Stoichkov to quit coaching the national football team and to lead the Spanish Celta.
El Mundo Deportivo reported that signing the contract with Stoichkov could aid Celta remain within Primera Division.
Once a Barcelona footballer, Stoichkov will now make his first appearance as the coach of a Spanish team, the report said. His main task will be to keep Celta within Spain’s football elite.
The newspaper quoted Stoichkov as saying that he was happy with the fact that Celta entrusted him with such important task. Celta could remain within Primera Division, where the team’s place was, Stoichkov said.
Sports website sport.es called Stoichkov ‘Celta’s saviour.’
ABC newspaper reported that Stoichkov is taking over the position from previous coach Fernando Vasquez. According to the report Vasquez produced ‘catastrophic results’ in the three teams that he coached.
