The Souhodol landfill would be closed when its capacity has been used up. In two years time Souhodol would be a good place to live, Focus news agency quoted Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov as saying.
Borissov denied rumours about a planned enlargement of the landfill and the construction of a waste processing plant in the neighbourhood.
Borissov said ecological considerations were taken into account with new plans and that everything was strictly monitored by the European Commission.
Borissov made his statement after he had signed the agreement with the Dialogue for Souhodol society to invest 35 million leva in the neighbourhood in return for the use of the landfill.
