The municipal electoral commission in Sofia decided to keep mayor Boiko Borissov in office.
The commission ruled out Borissov followed regulations by quitting the private companies he was involved with before he became chief secretary of the Interior Ministry.
Opposition party Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) requested the dismissal of Borissov from his position, as involvement with companies represented conflict of interest, Darik Radio reported.
Out of 17 commission members 15 voted against DSB’s proposal.
Commission member Pavlina Todotrova said Borissov transferred his shares in the company and requested leave from the management in 2001, before accepting his position at the Interior Ministry.
The company’s management, however, did not receive the documents in due time, Darik reported.
The decision could be appealed in the coming 14 days before the Sofia City Court.
