01:00 Thu 12 Jan 2006

Accommodation for 3500 people will have to be provided in Sofia, Bansko and Borovets if Bulgaria is chosen to host the Winter Olympics in 2014. The statement features in a report by Sofia mayor Boiko Borissov, which the Sofia municipal council will vote on today.
Sofia municipality approves Bulgaria's candidacy to host the Olympics and will accept all engagements listed in the Olympic charter. Borissov and members of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee will sign a charter guarantee. Financial and organisational responsibilities will be divided between Borissov, Samokov mayor Angel Nikolov, and Bansko mayor Aleksander Kravarov, 24 Chassa newspaper reported.
If Bulgaria is approved during the first selection round on July 20 2007, the country will provide $ 422 million for capital investment. Part of the funds will come from the private business sector. New sport facilities will be constructed and existing ones modernised. Transport, health care and security expenses will come separately. Before July 20 2007 the country will invest $ 7.3 million.
