On December 5 the Sofia City Court would try the case against Ataka leader Volen Siderov and Kapka Georgieva for the incident on the Trakiya highway, representatives of the court announced as reported by Focus News Agency.
The two were accused as well of abetting Pavel Chernev, then Ataka MP, in perjury for the Trakiya highway road incident, which took place on April 7 2006, Focus News Agency said.
The car in which Volen Siderov was travelling, collided with Yavor Dokov's car, Focus News Agency reminded.
Siderov was quick to describe the incident as an assassination attempt. It soon became clear that the alleged assassins were 22-year-old student Dokov and his 75-year-old ill grandfather. What is more, the media revealed that it was Siderov's associates who assaulted Dokov and his grandfather, Dokov claiming Chernev beat him. Chernev testified he was the one with Siderov in the car.
Soon, however, Chernev confessed to the media that Siderov made him lie about the incident. He denied that he had been in Siderov's car and had participated in the beating and said Siderov decided to sacrifice him so as to cover up for his driver Lyubomir Bakardjiev, who beat Dokov. Bakardjiev had a criminal record and was on probation. Chernev said he was in another car on the same highway, heading in the opposite direction.
