SOFIA AIRPORT CANCELS FLIGHTS, SOME ROADS IN BULGARIA CLOSED

Several incoming and outgoing flights have been cancelled at Sofia Airport on December 24 because of the fog.

Incoming flights from Athens, Berlin, Bologna, Brussels, Bourgas, Bucharest, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Prague, Rome, Saint Petersburg, Skopje, Tel Aviv, Tirana, Varna and Vienna have been cancelled.

Flights to Athens, Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Bologna, Bourgas, Bucharest, Budapest, Dusseldorf, Istanbul, Frankfort, London, Madrid, Milan, Moscow, Munich, Paris, Prague, Rome, Tel Aviv, Tirana, Varna and Vienna have been cancelled.

Most flights cancelled were in the morning or evening.

Roads in Bulgaria were accessible under winter conditions, Union of Bulgarian Motorists said.
Most roads in the country were dry, though in places roads were wet, covered with snow or ice, Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) said.

Closed were the passages Troyan - Kurnare, Tvurditsa - Elena, Etropole - Zlatitsa and Vurbishki, BNR said.

Closed were the road Ognyanovo - Isperihovo, Etropole - Teteven between Yamna and Cherni Vit, Chibaovtsi - Svidnya, Tsarski Izvor - Gorski goren Trumbesh, and Letnitsa Gorsko Slivovo.

There was a danger for falling rocks on the roads between Sofia and Samokov, the Iskursko and Kresnensko gorges and the Passage of the Republic, BNR said.

Over the past 24 hours, 19 severe accidents happened in Bulgaria, one person died, 30 were injured, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.
In Sofia, seven were injured in 115 light and five severe accidents.
