A meeting of Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) and separate rallies of pensioners and anarchists in Sofia marked the International Workers’ Day.
BSP turned into a tradition May 1 summits in the capital of Sofia, but this year the party connected the event to its members of European Parliament (MEP) election campaign, mediapool.bg reported.
Prime Minister and BSP leader Sergei Stanishev and Economy Minister and BSP member Roumen Ovcharov led the meeting together with MEP nominees.
Police had to interfere in another rally to prevent a confrontation between a group of anarchists and neo-Nazis, mediapool.bg said. According to the anarchists they had permission for the rally and the neo-Nazis came only to sabotage the event.
A member of the committee for declassification of the former secret services files was present at the anarchists’ rally.
The third demonstration which took place in Sofia was those of pensioners and unemployed. The rally turned into a protest against poverty in Bulgaria, mediapool.bg said.
