Roumen Petkov was not elected Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) floor leader in Parliament as media reports have been suggesting since April 13 2008, the day when he resigned as interior minister.
On April 24 BSP MPs elected Angel Naidenov as their floor leader. Naidenov is BSP's spokesperson and head of Parliament's committee on defence.
Naidenov replaces Mihail Mikov, who on April 24 was appointed interior minister in Petkov's place. This change prompted media to speculate that Petkov was going to simply change place with Mikov.
When BSP's Roumen Ovcharov resigned from the post of economy and energy minister in the spring of 2007 he changed places with Petar Dimitrov head of Parliament's budget committee.
With Naidenov now leader of the BSP in Parliament, the question about his successor in Parliament's committee on defence remains open. Again media reports suggest that Petkov could take the post as head of the committee.
At the 2005 general elections Petkov was elected member of parliament, which means that after leaving the ministry he can go back to Parliament.
