SOCIALIST NOMINEES ACCUSES SOFIA MAYOR IN “MORBID POLITICAL AMBITIONS”
09:18 Mon 08 Oct 2007

“We cannot let a man with morbid political ambitions become mayor,” Bulgarian Socialist Party nominee for Sofia mayor Brigo Asparouhov said, referring to the Citizen for European Development of Bulgaria (CEDB) nominee and current mayor Boiko Borissov.

Borissov wants to sacrifice Sofia to satisfy his ambitions to rule over the whole country, Asparouhov said before BSP supporters on October 7 2007.

A man with unclear past and suspicious future should not have power, he said as quoted by mediapool.bg.

Asparouhov accused Borissov of granting property to “his people” for free and of speculations with support from Europe.

Borissov was considered the most probable winner of the post for Sofia mayor in the municipal elections on October 28 2007, mediapool.bg said.

Asparouhov, who has served 30 years in the communist-era secret services, said that he would bring security, order and calm to Sofia and that the Cabinet would support him.
