SOCIAL WORKERS NEXT TO PROTEST IN BULGARIA'S CAPITAL

Social workers are to go out on a protest September 25 at noon for higher salaries, Valentin Nikiforov of the Alliance of Independent Unions (KNSB) announced as reported by Za Grada.

Average salary in the sector is 259 leva, Nikiforov said.

Protests would start from the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, along boulevard Knyaz Dondukov and Rakovski streer to the Finance Ministry. Workers from 72 social care homes would take part in the protests.

If their demands are not met, a general strike would be announced with minimal care for patients in the homes, KNSB announced.

Nikiforov said the regional structures of the union were pressing for a decision for a national demonstration and strike to be made in all branches, Za Grada reported.
