The influx of foreign tourists coming to Bulgaria this summer compared to last year’s has seen an increase between four and six per cent, Tsvetan Tonchev of the Bulgarian Tourist Chamber said as quoted by website investor.bg.

After chartered flights were cancelled in May, because of the ongoing construction on the Black Sea coast, the arrival of foreign tourists have, only now, started to increase. The hotel bookings for August are even higher than initially expected, Tonchev said.

If the warm weather remains through to September, the overall increase of foreigners holidaying at the Black Sea could reach six per cent, leading to a revenue growth by seven to eight per cent.

The most desired resorts for this season are Albena, Riviera and Obzor. The leading tourists by nationality are German tourists, followed by British, Scandinavian and Russian tourists. This summer, a slight increase of Polish and Czech holiday-makers has been registered, Tonchev has said.

During peak season, the average price for one room at a three-star hotel, all-inclusive, is 60 leva, where as four-star hotels offer rooms between 100 and 150 leva a night. In smaller family hotels, rooms equipped with an air conditioner, television set and a refrigerator are 30 to 40 leva a night, and more unpretentious hotels offer rooms between 15-30 leva.
