11:00 Wed 07 Feb 2007

The ski conditions in Bulgaria's winter resorts are improving.

Snow coverage in Pamporovo resort reached 55cm and all tracks are suitable for skiing. Mountain rescue services advised skiers and snowboarders to make use only of the marked areas.

Avalanche threat persists in the high mountain regions, Focus news agency reported.

On February 7 Bansko winter resort is to discuss the recently issued terrorism threats that stopped the work of the resort the previous weekend.

An ecological organisation threatened to use explosive devices and cause an avalanche. It sent a letter to the Environment and Water Affairs Ministry, affecting the work of the resort over the weekend.

Bansko mayor Alexander Kravarov organised the discussion in order to come up with ways to counter similar threats and take preventive measures against avalanches.

Officials will also talk on the necessity of setting up an emergency group to deal with similar occasions.
