Since the beginning of the year, 41 people in Bulgaria got infected with HIV, doctor Tonka Vurleva said.
Vurleva, director of Bulgaria’s AIDS prevention programme, presented the data during a meeting with representatives of 10 local offices responsible for HIV prevention in Bulgaria.
Eleven of the men who got infected were homosexual, Vurleva said. Because of these troublesome figures, the national prevention campaign will try to target Bulgaria’s homosexual community.
Bulgaria’s anti-AIDS programme gets the participation of 52 NGOs. Health Ministry provides funding for the initiative.
The programme will last until December 2008. Ten local offices function in various Bulgarian municipalities
