More than 6000 people signed a petition for the protection of Irakli coastal region and some of the last remaining Black Sea wild beaches in Bulgaria.
The campaign was carried out in Sofia's Borisov Garden in the form of a music marathon, Darik Radio reported.
Thousands of people joined the organisers and signed the list for the protection of Irakli and eight wild coastal areas.
People from Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Varna, Bourgas, Pleven and other Bulgarian cities came to Sofia especially to sign the petition, organisers said. Volunteers have been collecting signatures for more than 30 hours already.
A number of Bulgarian public figures and celebrities also signed the petition. Artists presented a new song, dedicated to the protection of the wild coastal areas.
Organisers said the music marathon was the first activity in protection of Irakli. Such public initiatives could be expected in other Bulgarian cities soon. They aim at making the Environment and Water Affairs Minister impose protective measures and limit coastal construction works.
The next initiative would occur on June 30 in Nessebar. Municipal representatives are expected to take a desicion concerning Irakli's fate on that date.
