17:15 Mon 15 Oct 2007

Several tons of garbage have been collected from the 10 national parks which volunteers cleaned on October 13 2007, the National day for cleaning parks.

This was announced by WWF, one of the organisers of the cleaning, as quoted by Za Grada on October 15. Volunteers in the campaign came from Bulgaria, Austria and Belgium.

Despite the bad weather around 1 200  volunteers cleaned the most visited spots in the parks of Vitosha, Zlatni Nyasutsi, Strandja, Shoumensko Plato, Sinite Kamuni, Vrachanski Balkan, Persina, Rilski Manastir, Bulgarka and Rousenski Lom.

Collected garbage included mostly glass and plastic bottles, packages for cookies, biscuites and snacks, and tin cans.
