Former president and current sponsor of the Serbian football team Hajduk (Kula) Nikola Džomba involved Bulgarian CSKA in corruption controversy in the UEFA Cup matches in 2006.
Everyone knows that we refused 700 000 euro to let ourselves be defeated by CSKA, he said as quoted by the Serbian newspaper Blic.
The sum was not offered by CSKA, Džomba told Focus news agency. It was offered by two German-speaking people in the hotel where the team stayed for the match in Sofia. The two wanted Hajduk to loose the match by two goals. They said that the offer was related to huge bets in Asia.
The same offer was made for the match in Belgrade, Džomba said.
In the summer of 2006, CSKA played against Hajduk and defeated it in extra time of the second match in Belgrade, Focus said.
