If entering an unexploited, foreign place, where the senses will be challenged in every possible way means some sort of catharsis, then experiencing what the Sensory Labyrinth Theatre has to offer is a must. At least for those who are not afraid of the unknown. The theatre will be in Sofia from September 9 to 21 at the Bratya Miladinovi chitalishte (community centre) in the Knyazhevo borough.

In its essence, the Labyrinth is an interactive, site-specific performance. The audience, or the guests as they are called, is invited to pass through a specifically designed installation. The latter often is described as a winding road where the senses are pushed through sensuous portals.

Professional actors lead the Labyrinth wanderers, who, while walking in the dark, turn eyes to their own selves, becoming the main characters of a legend or a fairytale that exists only as a personal truth. Some who have gone through the bowels of the Labyrinth say that, at the exit, there is always a new conception of the self and the world.

The performance was inspired by Colombian anthropologist Enrique Vargas; the director of the Sofia acts is Iwan Brioc from the Welsh Cynefin Theatre.

Due to the limited space, the organisers advise those wishing to explore the Labyrinth to book tickets in advance. Visiting hours run every day from 2pm to 5 pm and 7pm to 10 pm; tickets cost 10 leva. To reserve a ticket or for more information, call 088/ 788 75 78.
