SENIOR PROSECUTOR TO BE SUED IN BULGARIA
19:18 Tue 06 Nov 2007 - Elitsa Savova

Sofia City Prosecution (SCP) has accused current Sofia Regional Prosecution Office deputy chief Petar Chalumov.

Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev demanded that the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) would suspend Chalumov from his post, mediapool.bg said on November 6 2007.

Once SJC suspends him, Chalumov would be officially accused of crimes against justice and persuasion of investigative officials to do so.

If found guilty, Chalumov could be sentenced to up to six years in prison.

Nearly a year ago, SCP launched an investigation of Chalumov.

The investigation showed that Chalumov replaced monitoring prosecutors in various trials and illegally seized and dealt with documents between June 2005 and July 2006.
