SECOND NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION AGAINST BULGARIA'S CABINET FAILS
11:30 Fri 02 Mar 2007

The no confidence motion against the Cabinet of Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev tabled by right-wing opposition parties failed.

From 224 members of Parliament (MPs), 163 voted against the no-confidence motion, 60 voted in favour and one abstained from voting, Focus news agency reported.

Opposition parties previously tabled the no confidence motion in connection to the crisis experienced in Bulgaria’s healthcare sector.

Leader of one of the parties in the ruling coalition Movement for Rights and Freedom (MRF) Ahmed Dogan said that the motion tried to test the unity of the ruling coalition.

Healthcare has a number of problems, but other European countries experienced similar problems, Health Minister Radoslav Gaidarski said. More positive attitude and discussions were needed to solve the problems in the sector, Gaidarski said.

The no confidence motion failed because Bulgaria needed stability not only in the healthcare sector but in all policies, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said. Stanishev said that the no-confidence motion was useful because it showed that the opposition gave no alternative to solve the problems
