Bulgarian chess player Vesselin Topalov lost for the second time during the 10th edition of the Essent Chess Tournament in the Dutch town of Hoogeveen.
In his first game Topalov lost from Azeri competitor Shahriar Mamedyarov in 47 moves, BGNES Sport agency reported. Hungarian Judit Polgar defeated Topalov in the second tournament round.
Ivan Sokolov, representing the Netherlands, lost from Mamedyarov as well, BGNES reported.
On October 24 Topalov would face Sokolov.
The tournament in Hoogeveen is taking place from October 22 to 28. It consists of two open tournaments, the Essent Open and an amateur competition.
A nine-round system would be used to determine the winner, who would receive 3000 euro, BGNES reported.
