SCHOLARSHIPS AND FREE UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS FOR BULGARIAN STUDENTS ABROAD

Studying at the Wales Aberystwyth University could cost Bulgarian students a mere 220 pounds (315 euro) a year, Dnevnik daily said.

The usual taxes amount to 3070 pounds (4403 euro) annually, but the Wales government is going to help students by paying 1800 pounds (2581 euro). The rest of the sum could be reduced, provided the student's family's annual income does not exceed 50 000 leva.

Students can apply for Aberystwyth and 27 other foreign universities at the World Education fair, which takes place November 10 and 11, 2007 at the Hilton hotel in Sofia.

Application taxes for foreign universities usually vary from 10 to 200 euro. However, applying through the fair would be free.

The fair would also host a demonstration seminar by Bulgaria's first Centre for intercultural education and successful adaptation in international environment education, Focus News Agency said.

Due to the increasing interest in UK education the fair would be attended by representatives of the British Student Loans Company, Focus News Agency reported. According to Dnevnik daily the company's statistics showed that in the past year over 300 Bulgarian students received loans to study at British universities. The loans were worth about 1 million pounds. Expectations were that by May 2008, when the deadline for applying for a loan is, this sum would rise.

The autumn World Education fair in November 2007 was going to be held for the 5th time, Focus News Agency said. Its initial aim was to inform Bulgarian candidates on both educational opportunities abroad and novelties in the European and world educational systems.

Over 200 high schools, universities and colleges are involved in the project.
