The Cabinet was working on a mega-strategy encompassing all previous attempts to deal with corruption and organised crime, European Integration Minister Meglena Kouneva said.
The document aimed to show Bulgaria had the political will to meet all EU accession criteria, Kouneva said.
Kouneva attended on September 10 the presentation of an Open Society Institute (OSI) monitoring report on Bulgaria’s readiness to become EU member, Dnevnik newspaper reported.
Bulgaria lacked a multi-disciplinary strategy for countering corruption and organised crime, the report said. Apart from the criticism, OSI evaluated positively the reforms Bulgaria implemented in the past months.
OSI pointed out that 67 reforms were adequate, 40 other were already implemented and 22 were in the process of being concluded. According to institute representatives Bulgaria’s EU entry on January 1 2007 was almost certain.
Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev was the person responsible for most positive developments in the justice and home affairs sphere, the report said.
