RUSSIAN PARLIAMENT RATIFIES PIPELINE DEAL WITH BULGARIA AND GREECE
10:04 Fri 11 May 2007

On May 10 2007, Russia’s parliament ratified the agreement on the construction of the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline.

The ratification will soon be voted on in the state duma, the lower house of parliament, Russian news agency Ria Novosti said.

Greece ratified the agreement in mid-April 2007. Greek development Minister Dimitris Sioufas said at the time that the pipeline could be finished at the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011.

Russia signed an agreement with Bulgaria and Greece on the construction of the pipeline on March 15 2007 after nearly 14 years of negotiations, Ria Novosti said.

The pipeline will be 280km long and will transport Russian oil from Bulgaria’s port of Bourgas to Greece’s Alexandroupolis, bypassing the busy Turkish Straits. Its capacity will be 35 million to 50 million tons.
