Russian insurance company Sogaz has signed a civil liability insurance policy with Atomstroyexport for the construction of Bulgaria's second nuclear power plant in Belene.

The insurance covers engineering, project activities and architecture activities during the construction of the nuclear plant, Focus news agency said.

Atomsroyexport is the winner of a public tender for the construction of two units of Bulgaria's Belene nuclear power plant.

The two units of the Belene plant would make up for the generating capacity Bulgaria lost after closing two reactors of the Kozlodui Nuclear Power Plant at the end of 2006. The closures were one of the conditions Bulgaria accepted in order to join the EU.
