RUSSIA AND BULGARIA TO FURTHER DEVELOP BILATERAL RELATIONS- STANISHEV, PUTIN
17:06 Tue 08 May 2007

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev and Russian president Vladimir Putin discussed Bulgarian-Russian relations.

Bulgaria and Russia can develop even better relations in future, Stanishev said after the talks, held during a working visit to Moscow.

Bilateral relations had become more dynamic over the past few years, he said. Trade had developed and the two countries launched several big projects.

He gave as an example Bulgaria’s contract with Russian company Gazprom for a long-term natural gas supply, construction of the Belene nuclear power plant and the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline agreement.

All these projects define the relations between the two countries, but did not exhaust opportunities for co-operation in the fields of economy and energy.

Bulgaria and Russia had only laid the foundation in their relations and had proven that they could co-operate successfully, Stanishev said.

Putin also emphasised the development of the bipartite relations. Trade turnover between both countries exceeded $4 billion, he said.
