Opposition parties in Bulgaria hope that some groups in one of the ruling parties, the National Movement Simeon II (NMSII), will support the motion of no confidence in the Cabinet, initiated by the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF).
According to the opposition, such hints existed. NMSII Members of Parliament rejected the claim.
The opposition needs only a few more MP signatures to gather the 48 needed to present the no-confidence vote, mediapool.bg reported.
The motion resulted from the failure of the Cabinet in the fields of economy, social affairs, as well as from the corruption scandal that arose in the beginning of May and involves Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov.
The Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria (DSB), one of the parties in opposition, refused to support the motion, because such motion before the elections for members of the European Parliament (MEP) on May 20 was “totally groundless”.
DSB leader Ivan Kostov said that the MEP elections would prove that Bulgarians distrusted the Cabinet.
According to the leader of the ultra-nationalist movement Ataka, Volen Siderov, the no-confidence motion was the beginning of the consolidation of the opposition.
