RULING PARTY MEMBERS IN BULGARIA CALL FOR DISMISSAL OF ECONOMY MINISTER
20:18 Thu 31 May 2007

A fraction within the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) called for the dismissal of Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov.

According to these party members, BSP should change its policies and leadership.

The comments came in connection to the alleged involvement of Ovcharov in a corruption scandal. On May 31 Prosecution announced the results of the investigation. It lacks sufficient evidence but work on the case will continue.

BSP member Yanaki Stoilov said that the investigation results presented on May 31 are a stage of the entire process. Party members had further political reasons to demand the dismissal of Ovcharov, Stoilov said as quoted by Focus news agency.

People had very high expectations concerning the investigation, Stoilov said. At the same time part of the issue focused on problems between parties that formations had to solve on their own, without involving the judiciary.
