RULING MAJORITY IN BULGARIA FAILS CARRYING OUT PROMISES- OPPOSITION
11:07 Fri 13 Apr 2007

The ruling tripartite coalition failed executing its electoral promises of new social policies, leader of rightist Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) Petar Stoyanov said.

Stoyanov responded to previous comments of Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev that the coalition executed most of its goals and should update its social policies.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) promised a 20 per cent wage and pension increase before the parliamentary elections, Stoyanov said. Saying that the promise was carried out was ridiculous, he said as quoted by Bulgarian National Radio.

Stoyanov said that the ruling coalition failed carrying out other policies, apart from their social promises. EU membership was achieved because of previous efforts of the right wing, Stoyanov said.

Right now the ruling coalition was relying on the gained momentum, Stoyanov said. The first months after the country’s EU entry were not used for active development, he said.
