President Georgi Purvanov said that the ruling tripartite coalition had the potential to become stronger through discussions and party summits.

Despite internal political controversies, the parties in the coalition could reach an agreement, Purvanov said during a meeting with diplomats from EU member countries in Sandanski.

Parties in the coalition experienced tension after the recent members of European Parliament (MEP) elections. People tried to teach the ruling majority a lesson through the vote, Purvanov said.

Prime Minister and Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) leader Sergei Stanishev said that the priorities of the coalition had been analysed and financially accounted for.

“We are in a coalition not to love each other deeply, but to do specific job,” Stanishev said.

BSP members had the same attitude towards the ruling coalition just like representatives of the other two parties, National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) and Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), Stanishev said.
