RULING COALITION LEADERS IN BULGARIA MEET TO DISCUSS CABINET CHAGES

The leaders of the party in the ruling tripartite coalition in Bulgaria will meet to discuss future structural chages in the Cabinet.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev announced as quoted by mediapool.bg that he will meet National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) leader Simeon Saxe-Coburg and Movement for Rigths and Freedom (MRF) leader Ahmed Dogan.

Two Ministers from have already resigned. Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov, who was allegedly involved in a corruption controversy and Justice Minister Georgi Petkanov will be replaced.

Deputy Economy and Energy Minister Kornelia will also be replaced due to her alleged involvement in the same scandal.

The meeting between the three leaders had to take place in the beginning of June after Stanishev accepted Petkanov’s and Ovcharov’s resignations and announced that he planned to make structural changes in the Cabinet.

Anton Stankov will possibly take the position of Justice Minister. Ovcharov will reportedly be replaced by state budget commission head Petar Dimitrov or parliament member Petar Kunev.

Stanishev will ask his coalition partners to support him in taxation policy changes, healthcare reforms and pension system reforms.
