Tsvetelin Kunchev, leader of the Roma party Evroroma, initiated sedition in the Sofia’s quarter of Krasna Polyana on August 13 2007, Roma population of the district said.
Kunchev was aiming to win more votes in the municipal elections in autumn 2007, residents told Focus news agency.
Evroroma’s leader had not been in the Roma quarter of Fakulteta, located next to Krasna Polyana, for four years. The party itself lacked supporters in the area.
Roma said that Kunchev made up that skinheads had been to the district, while he himself called on the Roma population to prepare cudgels and axes. “In the next moment, Deputy Interior Minister Kamen Penkov … and Boiko Borissov will come to curb the Roma in order to be seen on the TV,” people said, as quoted by Focus.
Residents of the districts said that no skinheads had visited them and that they had lived peacefully until the incident on August 13.
