On April 28 most of the roads throughout Bulgaria are said to be dry, the Ministry of Interior said, but the weather in the mountains is not ideal for tourists and trekkers because of wind and snow in certain areas.

The Bulgarian language daily Dnevnik reported that the following mountain passes are closed: Tvurditsa-Elena, Etroplole-Zlatitsa, Arbakonak and the roads Reselets-Kunino, Shipka-Buzludja, Voyvodino-Rakovski, Krustets-Tsareva Livada-Dryanovo.

The Hemus highway between the seventh and the ninth km is closed in the overtaking lane and therefore vehicles should drive in the other two lanes. Heavy freight trucks are restricted from using the Sofia-Pernik roads. The go-around route is Dupnitsa-Samokov-Sofia and back: Dupnitsa-Samokov-Ihtiman-Trakiya highway and back.

There is a danger of falling stones at the mountain pass Troyan-Kurnare, on the valley of Iskur River and on the roads Mezdra-Botevgrad, Sofia-Samokov, Devin-Krichim, Assenovgrad-Smolyan, Nikopol (4th kilometer), Yugovo-Lucky and in the region of Koznitsa.

Mountain Rescue Service said the weather in the mountains is not suitable for tourism. In Stara Planina it is snowing and in some places winds are very strong. Mountain paths are covered with snow and ice. The Mountain Rescue Service has advised tourists to maintain vigilance and have good equipment if trekking through local mountains, Bulgarian language daily Zagrada.bg quoted BTA’s report.

The Rhodopi Mountain has also received snowfall but now it has stopped, leaving snow cover of about five cm. In the area of Studenets it is about 0 degrees and there is no wind.

At Borovets in Rila Mountain it is four degrees. In Bansko, in the Pirin Mountain, the temperature is six degrees.
