Three people died in one car crash on a road near Varna. The tragedy happened on September 11 in Priseltsi village just outside Varna, on the way to Bourgas. A Volkswagen collided directly with a bus from Varna’s Perota transport company. The car was completely destroyed by the impact. The driver and the passenger next to him died on the spot. The third victim died on the way to hospital. Of those in the bus, only the driver suffered minor injuries.
A day before the incident a drunk driver crashed his vehicle at the same spot in the road. No one was seriously injured. In total, 15 people were injured on Varna roads during the weekend of September 8, police said.
Road accidents were not limited to Varna. On September 9, a car crash claimed the life of a 23-year-old police officer, whose Mazda collided with a Volkswagen on the road between the towns of Mezdra and Vratsa, western Bulgaria. Three people were injured, including a pregnant woman who will most likely lose her baby. The same day another road accident claimed the life of a young boy near the town of Samokov and three other people were injured. The reason for the crash is thought to have been high speed and reckless driving. Local people have complained that the road signs on the crossroad where the incident happened were not visible enough.
The statistics on road accidents are fearsome. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 677 people have lost their lives on Bulgarian roads. Another 6690 have been injured. The casualties have been the result of 5454 road accidents between January 1 and September 12. Since the start of the month, 42 people have died and 294 have been injured.
Meanwhile a new fashion has appeared on Varna roads. On September 10, Varna Traffic Police officers performing a regular check found out that a 24-year-old driver of a BMW was driving with a fake driving licence. It turned out that the young driver had made the document himself.
