Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) will present to the European Parliament (EP) its report from 2004 on the controversial hospital construction deal, allegedly proving the existence of a corruption scheme.
On June 17 Italian prosecution revealed that Italian Prince Victor Emmanuel and businessman Pierpaolo Cerani offered to finance former prime minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg's electoral campaign in exchange for hospital construction rights.
In 2004 DSB began an investigation on the construction deal controversy but former prosecutor-general Nikola Filchev allegedly hindered the trial, DSB member Dimitar Abadzhiev said.
Bulgarian National Radio quoted Abadzhiev as saying that he would send the report to the EP the following week.
Bulgaria's image was harmed by the National Assembly's refusal to pass the anti-corruption declaration DSB proposed, Abadzhiev said. He added that the party was worried that only few months before Bulgaria's EU accession, the country was associated with high-level corruption schemes.
By sending its report to the EP, DSB would demonstrate that two years ago Bulgarian authorities had taken measures to fight corruption and had the will to reveal the truth, Abadzhiev said.
