Leader of the Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) Petar Stoyanov could participate in the upcoming presidential elections, UDF member Yane Yanev said.
Previously Stoyanov said he would refrain from participation and would support the nominee of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) Nedelcho Beronov. The move aimed to unite the right-wing electorate in supporting one candidate, Novinar newspaper reported.
Yanev said that Stoyanov’s chances for reaching a second elections round were high. He called for the withdrawal of Beronov’s nomination and support from DSB for Stoyanov’s candidacy.
Other UDF members said that though Yanev brought up the issue, UDF was expected to support Beronov’s nomination.
DSB member Atanas Atanasov said the statement of Yanev aimed to provoke DSB reactions.
