Right-wing party Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) is considering the selection of its leader Petar Stoyanov as leading nominee for the members of European Parliament (MEP) elections in Bulgaria.
Elections are scheduled for mid-May. Until then Bulgaria's former EP observers will carry out the MEP functions.
UDF's national council would meet on February 6 to discuss the MEP elections, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.
Stoyanov said that a final decision on the nominees could not be expected after the council summit as national regulations for MEP elections were unlikely to gain approval by then.
UDF's goal was to regain the trust of the people and win at least two MEP positions, said Stoyanov.
Another rightist party, Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), said that all MEP nominees should be inspected for clean political past.
Only Bulgarian citizens, living on the territory of the country should have the rgith to vote, DSB said. The party suggested the use of an integral ballot, listing the names of all candidates.
