Resolve name issue before December Nato summit - US ambassador
21:50 Wed 30 Jul 2008 - Rene Beekman

US ambassador Gilian Milovanovic said that Macedonia should keep its interest in mind and move towards a negotiated settlement of the name issue in the coming months, Macedonian news agency Makfax said.

In an interview with Skopje-based Alfa TV, Milovanovic said that Macedonia should take proposals put forward by mediator Matthew Nimetz into consideration and embrace the chance to reach an agreement with Greece on the name issue ahead of the Nato summit in December.

Milovanovic said that the proposals safeguard the interests of the country and could form the basis for further negotiations with Greece, Greek daily Kathimerini said.

"It is a golden opportunity for Macedonia," Makfax quoted Milovanovic as saying.

Greek politicians, have said for the first time that this dispute is "ideological" [Greek politician] Pangalos). On a side note, I myself studied 2unit Macedonian as part of my Australian Higher School Certificate, and let me tell you, there was NOTHING greek about it. The Macedonian language is closely related to the oldest of all European languages. The Veneti. See the Dura-Europos inscriptions: http://www.unitedmacedonians.org/macedonia/stefov18.html Also, see the Human Rights Watch on Greece: http://hrw.org/doc/?t=europe_pub&c=greece ... and you will quite clearly see that Macedonians are NOT Greek and never have been.

It's comments like yours Blagojce that bring ridicule on the Macedonian people. Academics steer clear of anything written by Macedonian scholars, with comments like, "this material is of spurious content", "dubious material". What dignity is there in the worlds' academics ignoring Macedonian scholars? Mr Stefov claims it is a world conspiracy run by the Greeks. Do you believe that? Your reference to the inscriptions isn't even acknowledged by any historian. If you want to do your country a service, give it the dignity of an honest and acceptable history.
