RESIGNATION OF ONE MINISTER IN BULGARIA INSIGNIFICANT CHANGE- SOCIOLOGISTS
16:37 Thu 31 May 2007

Cabinet changes have long been an important topic of discussion but the resignation of one minister is insignificant change, political scientist Roumiana Kolarova told Bulgarian National Television.

Kolarova commented on the decision of Justice Minister Georgi Petkanov to resign from his position.

Though the Cabinet has some failures, ministerial changes were demanded because of a political scandal, Kolarova said.

Sociologist Tatyana Bouroudzhieva said that the Cabinet achieved the aim of EU membership and should now explain why it needed to remain in power.

Cabinet changes should result from overall policy modification and should not focus only on the dismissal of few individuals, Bouroudzhieva said.
