Registration to become mandatory for non-banking lenders
12:46 Tue 22 Jul 2008 - dnevnik.bg

Upcoming changes to the law on financial institutions law will make registration with the central bank mandatory for all companies providing financial services, such as lending or leasing.

Currently, around 400 companies that fall in that category are required to simply notify their business to the central bank.

The registration process would pose several requirements. Non-bank lenders will have to provide the central bank with information on their shareholders, the origin of their capital and the professional credentials of their management.

Specific requirements will most likely be set out in a special government ordinance. The bill amending the Credit Institutions Act is fully drafted and is expected to be reviewed by the managing board of the central bank before it is voted by Parliament.

This registration requirement will be most beneficial in Bulgaria as it will not only help curb corruption but also create accountability.
