Lack of home and job, low wages and intolerance feature among the main problems that refugee women face in Bulgaria, refugees from Asia and Africa said during a round table discussion.
An Iraqi woman said that she faced intolerance over the past several years. She related it to ultra-nationalist movement Ataka.
Mostly younger people showed intolerance, she said.
Daniela Veleva, representative of State Agency for Refugees with the Council of Ministers, said that xenophobic attitude resulted from a problems with the set of values of Bulgarians.
Bulgarians showed intolerance even against Bulgarians, Bulgarian news agency BTA said.
A refugee from North Africa said that discrimination was everywhere. The most important thing a refugee should do is accept local culture.
Refugee women appreciated the shelter they received and Bulgaria’s attitude towards them. They could contribute to Bulgaria ’s development, they said.
