During the December 20 session of the Bourgas municipal council, municipal councillors decided that a local referendum on the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline would be held on February 17, 2008, Dnevnik daily reported.
The question that the citizens of the municipality would have to answer was whether they approve of the construction of the Bourgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline with the pipeline trace and with the installations being situated on the territory of the Bourgas municipality.
The municipal councillors voted that 60 000 leva was to be used to organise the referendum, Dnevnik daily said. Another 10 000 leva would be used for a 20 day information campaign. A 7-member commission consisting of councillors and representatives of the municipal administration would organise the campaign.
The proposal for the referendum was made by Ataka representatives at the municipal council, Dnevnik daily reported.
In order for the referendum to be legitimate, 51 per cent of voters would have to participate.
