The lack of proper drainage systems and underground water management facilities produced the latest floods in cities close to the Danube riverbank, Disaster Management Minister Emel Etem said.
The situation in the region will remain problematic until June due to the expected spring river level increase, Etem said. Today she visited some of the cities affected worst by the latest floods.
Dikes and harbour facilities need urgent repairs in several cities, Darik radio reported. Damages cannot be evaluated yet, since expert teams have not finished their inspections, Etem said.
This week, the Health Ministry will also get involved in after-flood recovery projects. Its representatives will propose a healthcare programme aimed at preventing the spread of infections in the flooded regions.
If the Danube River level remains steady or starts decreasing the state of emergency will be cancelled, Etem said.
