A contract for the purchase of 350 000 units of harmful emissions in the period of 2008-2012 was signed Monday between Overgas Inc and the Dutch government.
The executive director of Overgas Inc. Sasho Donchev and the deputy minister of finance of the Kingdom of Holland Joop Wijn signed the document. The contract is the first in Bulgaria, signed between the Dutch government and a Bulgarian private company. The value of the project is 1.382 million euro, which will be used to purchase a quota of harmful gas emissions at prices agreed in the Kyoto Protocol.
The project will be implemented during the 2008-2012 period. Overgas will invest the funds received in the gasification of the towns of Veliko Turnovo, Gorna Oryahovitsa and Lyaskovets. A total of 15.8 million euro will be invested in the construction of a 200-km gas distribution network that will cover 43 industrial, 83 administrative and 17 500 household users.
In 2003 Overgas won the ERUPT 3 bidding of the SENTER Government Agency of the Netherlands.
Currently the Dutch side is considering 6 Bulgarian projects. They have been shortlisted for the fourth tender round of the ERUPT program, including the Overgas project for the gasification of Sofia; the nitrous oxide emission reduction project of fertiliser plant Neochim; a project for a fuel switch at thermal power plants; a project for the construction of a combined-cycle power capacity; and a project to improve energy efficiency in several regions of the country.
Wijn announced that the approval of some of the projects will facilitate the influx of investment into Bulgaria's energy sector.
Bulgarian companies will have to submit their final offers, containing more detailed calculations of the emission reductions that can be delivered, after the end of May.
