BULGARIA’S Evgenia Radanova won the European short-track title in the European short track speed skating championship in Krynica Zdroj, southern Poland, on January 22.
Radanova was the overall winner after she managed to finish first in all three legs of the races.
The win came on time for Radanova to gain confidence in view of the forthcoming Winter Olympics in Turin.
Radanova’s consecutive wins in Krynica Zdroj started on the first day of the championship on January 21 when she grabbed the title in the women’s 1500 metre race. Radanova, who is also Bulgaria’s five-time European and World Champion in the 500 metres, left behind Italian Marta Capurso, who came in second with a time of 2:33.010. Another Italian, Arianna Fontana, came third, at 2:33.499.
After winning the title Radanova, told journalists that she was really happy, especially because she did not manage to win the title last year.
Radanova, born on November 4 1977, is a student at Bulgaria’s National Sports Academy. She won the third place in the 1500m short-track event at the 19th Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City 2002 and holds the world record for the 500m short-track.
